GPS Tracking System – Moving At A Fast Pace

GPS, which stands for global positioning system, was first introduced in the 1970’s by the United States military, solely for its own navigation purpose. It gathered huge success which resulted in the extensive use of GPS in other fields by 1980’s.

Initially known as GNSS (global navigation satellite system), it maps earth in any kind of weather. The whole world is covered by the constellation of GPS satellites, with each satellite constantly transmitting radio signals to detect the location, speed and direction of travel of a GPS sensor (receiver).

GPS system broadly constitutes of four parts- satellites, receiver, mobile tower and the software
Satellites transmit information through radio waves which are received by the receiver in the GPS device. It then transfers this data to the mobile tower using mobile network (GSM/CDMA). From there the data is carried by GPRS network to the server, which stores the raw data in its database for further use, carried by local internet to the needful systems like laptops and mobiles.

Processing this data leads to meaningful information about vehicle’s location, movement, route, speed etc. Advanced GPS devices can record more information like ignition status, fuel status, air conditioner status, odometer reading etc.

Software is an important part of this set-up. It is where the user interacts with the system and views the processed, meaningful information.

Axestrack Software Solutions, one of the leading GPS system providers in India, caters to the following industries, exemplifying the extensive usage of GPS system across all industries
